SPEED NEWS – 2: TRAFFIC CALMING AND 20MPH

Posted on

Northumberland County Council is pursuing a new traffic calming and speed reduction scheme for Lowick.

20 MPH

The first is a 20mph zone to protect the school during the time when children are going and coming to and from school.

CHICANES

A scheme to slow traffic down by a chicane each end of the village is being actively pursued, with a £1000 contribution from our County Councillor. The documents are available on the Parish Council website. The WEST CHICANE, will be between the Vicarage and Western House, just before Eelwell Road. The EAST CHICANE would be outside the Village Hall.

The Chicane forces traffic entering the village to slow down as it approaches the village, and gives priority to those leaving. It is a common feature of many villages in Northumberland today.

It is good news that chicanes are finally being considered for both ends of the village which is a long overdue, common sense initiative. The proposed location of the east chicane doesn’t take into account the existing access into Lambton Avenue and Kyloe View nor the future two access points that will occur once the new developments are completed. Surely it makes much more sense to locate the eastern chicane somewhere around the current 30 mph signs where they would protect the whole village and not just the village hall westwards ?
