PLOUGHING MATCH AT MINDRUM

Posted on

The annual British National Ploughing Championships & Country Festival  is held in a different part of the country each year.  This year, it will be held not too far away from us at Mindrum Mill, Northumberland TD12 4QL on 9th and 10th October 2021 (by kind permission of D Harvey & Son).  This is only the third time it has been held in Northumberland and the first time it has been so far north in more than 50 years.

It is a very unique and traditional event and will have over 200 ploughmen and women from throughout Great Britain showing  their skills in the art of ploughing. But it’s not just about ploughing – it’s a fantastic way to see our farming heritage and how agriculture has changed over 200 years or more, all working in the same place.

On both days there will be 9 pairs of magnificent heavy horses; 4 giant steam ploughing engines which, in pairs, pull a huge plough from one end of a field to the other by cable; lots of different vintage tractors and equipment from throughout the 20th century; up to the present day with local companies demonstrating their newest tractors and machinery.

A great day out can be had for the whole family, as with all of this plus trade stands, shopping, tractor and trailer rides and craft stalls, the Championships promise to be lots more than just a ploughing match!
