THE VILLAGE FLAG

Posted on

Today, the village flagpole flies the Northumberland flag at half mast. This is in recognition of the recent passing of a local resident who many of you will know.

Recently, the parish council decided that the county flag was the best choice when honouring the lives of local people. The Union flag is retained for national events, which is in keeping with UK guidelines.

Who should be honoured? At one time, this was reserved for the occasion of the death of our oldest resident, and latterly, for those who had lived in the village for more than thirty years. We thought we would extend this to anyone who was an established resident who many would know.

How would we know when a life needed honouring in this way? Please let the Council know and the flag will be flown.

I think this is a lovely idea and hope I live long enough to have been 30 years in Lowick!
