Welcome to our Northumberland Libraries Newsletter. We want to keep you informed about all of the exciting ways you can still access your library service.  From next month we will be moving to a monthly e-newsletter which will still be filled with lots of updates and activities for you to enjoy.

We are pleased to announce that from this week, Amble and Prudhoe will offer time limited browsing. IT access will also be available at Amble. Seaton Sluice will be offering a Select and Collect service on Wednesdays. Please call the libraries for more information.  We will also be offering a modified mobile library service from this week, which will combine stops with doorstep deliveries to customers who wish to continue receiving them. Customers will not be able to climb onto the library van but will be offered a selection of books from the door of the vehicle. They will be advised of the amended timings in advance of the visit. Big Draw 2020 moves online!

Join us for a drawing workshop for all the family on Sat October 24 at 2pm with illustrator Katie Chappell.

Come and be part of the international Big GREEN Draw festival and celebrate the wonderful coastline we have in Northumberland. Katie’s workshop will help us think about and learn how to draw the special seabirds we have living and visiting the Northumberland coastline, including the endangered puffins which breed each year on the Farne Islands.

Virtual Reading Club Book 

This month’s Virtual Reading Group title will be Villa of Secrets by Patricia Wilson. A thrilling, dramatic and completely engaging tale of love, hope, intrigue and revenge on the island of Rhodes during the Nazi occupation.

The virtual meeting will take place during Libraries Week on Thursday October 8 at 2pm. If you want to join us you must register every month via Eventbrite: Hope to see you then!

Calling all Northumberland Creative Writers
The autumn is a good time to take up a new hobby, learn something new or revive a lapsed interest.  After a short break Northumberland Libraries’ Online Creative Writing Group restarts on Saturday September 26, 2pm – 4pm. The group is hosted by experienced tutor Gilly Beckett.  With fun writing promos and the opportunity to share your work with like minded, encouraging writers.    Book your place

Creative Writing Groups for Young People Amble and Cramlington Young People’s Creative Writing Groups have moved online

New Writing North is running Saturday morning online workshops for young people aged 12-19 who are interested in trying creative writing. The one-hour workshops take place on Zoom between 11am and 12pm, and are free to join. Each week we will be trying out new activities linked to the theme of (in)visibility.

Northumberland Communities Together

Northumberland Communities Together is here to help if you are struggling to manage at home and need support for basic things like food, and are unable to get help from friends or relatives.

They are a support to residents, groups and volunteers with practical advice and help for things like food supplies, access to resources for other essentials, as well as safeguarding information for our most vulnerable and at risk residents.

And finally…
RBdigital will no longer be available after 30 Sep 2020

We have responded to customer feedback and from the start of October we will be focusing our digital library on to two platforms – BorrowBox and PressReader.

All eBooks and eAudio will be available in one place making it easier for customers to find reading and listening material by simply downloading the BorrowBox app and logging in with their library card and PIN.

Magazines that are currently available on RBdigital will be available on BorrowBow or PressReader alongside an increased range of magazines and newspapers.

If library members need any help in setting up either please email mylibrary@northumberland.gov.uk and someone will be in touch to assist.
