LIBRARY SERVICE NEWSLETTER

Welcome to our Northumberland Libraries Newsletter. We want to keep you informed about all of the exciting ways you can still access your library service.

Don’t forget to check mylibrary.co.uk for all our updates.

Library Service Update

As part of the phased reopening of our libraries we are introducing a Select and Collect Service from four libraries initially.  From next week customers can contact Berwick, Blyth, Hexham or Morpeth libraries by filling in an online form or by calling the library telephone number.

Our staff will make a selection based on preferences for genres and authors indicated on the form and the bundle of books will be bagged up ready for collection from the library at a predetermined time slot. It is not yet possible to resume our normal reservations service so requests for specific authors and titles can only be satisfied if the book is in stock at that library.

Research your family history

We are thrilled to announce that library members will continue to have access to Ancestry Library Edition from home until the end of July.

This is an excellent opportunity to start, or continue, your family history research.

Please note you will need to use your library card number and PIN to access Ancestry.

Health Information Week

This week is Health Information Week, a national campaign promoting high quality information for patients and the public.

The two key themes for this year are; finding information you can trust and physical and mental wellbeing. During the current Covid situation, this is more important than ever.

We have been working with colleagues in NHS libraries to help you discover reliable health information. Did you know the NHS has lists of trusted apps, many of which are free to download?

You can also access helpful eBooks and eAudio from BorrowBox or catch up with the most up to date health information with our new PressReader digital magazine and newspaper service

Summer Reading Challenge Online Events

This year’s annual Summer Reading Challenge gets a special Northumberland launch this Saturday,  July 11.

As this year’s Challenge has gone digital, so have we! We have some fantastic virtual launch events and online activities for families to enjoy.

Saturday sees our first launch event – a fantastic Circus Skills Workshop with Circurama. Enjoy juggling, magic, nonsense…and a few surprises too!
This virtual event will be broadcast on Northumberland’s Facebook page, live at 1pm.

On Monday, July 13, the brilliantly funny author and illustrator Liz Million joins us for a crazy cartoon workshop recorded especially for Northumberland Libraries this summer.
The workshop goes live on YouTube at 1.30pm. If you want to ask Liz a question about her time as an illustrator email them to mylibrary@northumberland.gov.uk and she will answer them in a live Q&A after the workshop.

We’re looking forward to families across Northumberland joining us and getting silly for the Summer Reading Challenge this year!

And finally…

If you have finished an eBook or eAudiobook why not return it so that someone else can enjoy it! Lots of the items in our digital library can only be read by one person at a time so if you finish a book early why not return it straight away rather than waiting for it to automatically be returned.
