WEEKLY UPDATE FROM “KEEPING LOWICK AND DISTRICT CONNECTED”

Posted on

Wow!  What a load of information is flooding through at the moment! As well as the Government’s updates (at a rate of something like a dozen and more a day) there are so many messages. And a lot of them are VERY relevant!  This week’s bulletin is a tad early – given its Eastertide.

BEWARE SCAMMERS

Unbelievably the range of scams is increasing ….  So sad!!

  • Locally, there’s one where someone telephones and says they are from Union Brae Surgery and that someone will be calling and they should be let in – all a pack of lies!  Thanks to Harry Wilson for that one
  • And we’ve had a message from the Police about some scams –  waiting for some attachments – I’ll send them when they arrive and in the meantime, here’s a warning sign – can people put these up in our villages?

Age UK Northumberland will be receiving a donation of food parcels sometime over the Easter weekend.  We would like to distribute them throughout Northumberland to those who are elderly and vulnerable.  I have been advised that they contain e.g. teabags/cornflakes/rice cakes/crisps/pies and soup already packed into individual boxes (the sort paper is delivered in). If you would like to receive a delivery of food parcels please contact me directly and we can discuss delivery/collection. Please note allocation will be on a first come first served basis.

MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING

We all know that these are difficult times and some find them more difficult than others. Sad news from Rothbury tells us that someone there has taken their own life and the local County Councillor has sent a message suggesting that we make daily phone calls to particularly distressed people and those who do feel very much isolated and alone. And there’s a trauma counselling service and MIND and the Northumberland Crisis Team have referral numbers.

The referral line number for MIND is 0191 477 4545 – service is mainly Monday to Friday 9-5. Other times, the best point of contact would be the Northumberland Crisis Team and the number for this service is 0303 123 1146.

And we know exercise is useful and keeps us alert and more content – we also sleep better. See the next Lowick Live story.

GARAGE OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Aitken Walker Garage in Duns is open – they are excellent – Workshop Foreman is Ian Bell – phone number is 01361 882212 – as you approach Duns from the Berwick/Chirnside road you go around a sharp 90 degree bend & the garage is just on the left before you enter the 30mph signs.
